Henley-Putnam University Hosts a Free Public Telecoference Briefing on "Building a Career in Military Intelligence"

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2008 -- On Thursday, April 24, beginning at 10 A.M. (PST), former Army Intelligence Officer John Rovegno, will share his thoughts on how to build a career in military intelligence in this month's Henley-Putnam University teleconference.

The teleconference will include topics such as:

1.'How to think' not 'what to think,' which is an important distinction that separates the best intelligence analysts

2. The skills needed to be successful as a Military Intel Analyst, including critical thinking

3.Understanding the basics of the intelligence cycle, including critical thinking, cultural understanding, language and linguistics ('how' something is said is as important as 'what' is said), and the military decision making process (MDMP). Military intelligence analysts must understand that they are part of a team, so use the knowledge and expertise on your team (Fires, Civil Affairs, Public Affairs, Special Operations, Chaplains, etc.) to your advantage.

According to Rovegno, "We now have the opportunity to share our future officers'/analysts' education towards those subjects and ideas which are helpful to understand the future. Military schools teach the basics quite well, but no one effectively teaches critical thinking...applying the conventional to the unconventional. Students must think outside the box to predict the enemy's next moves. Analysts must study abroad and truly understand how other cultures think and why they do what they do."

About the Presenter

Colonel John Rovegno, U.S. Army Retired, served more than 26 years as an Intelligence Officer. He held a variety of command and staff positions around the world, including: Director of Intelligence, NATO Forces Bosnia; Commander U.S. Military Intelligence Forces Kosovo; and Chief of Intelligence Operations for five separate operations in the Middle East. John has published extensively in professional journals on peacekeeping operations, intelligence operations and Balkan's culture. Colonel Rovegno earned three Master's Degrees and retired from the Army in 2006 while holding the Army War College Chair of Strategic Intelligence.
