PNC Chosen Among Nation's Best Companies For Working Mothers for Sixth Ttime

Pittsburgh, Pa. (PRWEB) September 25, 2007 -- Programs to support employees with special needs children, a culture supportive of different working styles among the four generations in the workforce and benefits for part-time employees were among the reasons that The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (http://www.pnc.com) (NYSE: PNC) was chosen for the sixth time among the nation's '100 Best Companies for Working Mothers.'

This highly competitive, prestigious award is presented annually by Working Mother Magazine as a benchmark for work/life and family friendly practices in corporate America. On the award's 23rd anniversary, the magazine focused on the changing culture of flexibility. Companies that recognized the four different generations now in the workforce, as well as those that encouraged employees to take their vacation time, were honored. Also recognized were companies who extended benefits to all employees, as well as companies, like PNC, that helped employees with special needs children.

PNC offers several initiatives to employees with special needs children, including resources to locate child care or medical care as well as seminars offered by teleconference and webinar for employees to discuss common challenges. Earlier this year, parents who attended the first series of seminars for PNC employees with special needs children formed a small support group and remained in touch after the conclusion of the seminars.

Working Mother also recognized PNC for a culture that supports working parents, with networking opportunities for women, nursing mothers' facilities, eldercare counseling and several types of flexible work arrangements. PNC's newest flexible work programs include a "Summers Off" teller program designed for working parents and retirees who want to work from September to May; and a Weekend Branch Manager position that involves a Thursday through Sunday schedule, rather than a more traditional Monday through Friday work week.

METHODOLOGY

PNC was selected for the 2007 Working Mother 100 Best Companies based on an extensive application of 575 questions. The application included detailed questions about workforce, compensation, child-care and flexibility programs, leave policies and more. It also checked the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs, and company culture. For this year's 100 Best, particular weight was given to flexibility and family-friendly policies.
